For Ace and me, every adventure begins long before we actually leave home!
Travel logistics is a big part of every journey we take. Before departure, I want to make sure Ace and I have everything we need. I do not like arriving at a destination unprepared and suddenly wondering, "Now what?"
That is why I research, plan, take notes, and explore the destination before we even get there!
I like knowing where everything is located. Where are the places we want to visit? How far away are they? Can we walk there? Which direction do we go? Where are the sidewalks and crosswalks? I even like having an AI-generated map that is simple, easy to see, and easy to view on my iPhone—especially when regular walking directions do not make sense.
The research itself becomes part of the adventure!
Before every trip, I dig into the details to make sure Ace and I are covered and that our needs can be met. I look for interesting places to explore, places where we can work, and indoor locations such as shopping malls where we can escape the Florida heat on those hot and sweltering days.
Rain or shine, hot or cold, Ace and I are ready to go! I also enjoy discovering interesting places that make me think, "Oh! I want to experience that firsthand!" Sometimes the most unexpected discoveries become part of the adventure.
Lately, I have added something else to my travel logistics: finding a nearby veterinary clinic for Ace. Hopefully, we will never need one for an emergency, but I like knowing where it is. And who knows? We might even stop by just to have Ace weighed!
Of course, Ace is not the only one who might need care. I also find the nearest urgent care center and keep the name and address with my travel information. If something happens, I do not want to start searching when I am already dealing with an emergency. I want to know where to go.
Before traveling, I also call the veterinary office to make sure Ace is good to go and to find out whether an official Certificate of Veterinary Inspection is required. It is always better to check ahead of time than to face an unexpected problem before arriving at our destination.
There is also a reason Ace and I do not travel overseas. Different countries may have different diseases, parasites, animal-entry requirements, and quarantine rules. I do not want to take unnecessary risks with Ace's health or face the possibility of quarantine complications. Some adventures simply are not worth that risk.
That is why travel logistics also means paying attention to information from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), other government agencies, and notifications from Ace's school. I read, research, listen, and think carefully before making travel decisions.
To me, travel logistics is not the boring part of traveling. It is where the adventure begins!
Every address I save, every map I study, every place I discover, and every question I ask helps prepare Ace and me for what is ahead. The better prepared we are, the more freedom we have to enjoy the journey.
And once everything is ready?
Ace and I are off to explore, discover, learn, and experience another adventure together!
