Our sixth road trip took us to Winter Garden and this time we made it an overnight adventure. We even added a little bonus: a ride on the airport bus to Orlando International Airport—on a Saturday, no less. The airport was packed. I'm talking "people everywhere, echoing rolling luggage, and the faint smell of eateries from three concourses away" packed.
But we walked in like seasoned pros. We knew exactly where our preferred airline was, how to navigate levels one, two, and three without hesitation, and Ace was already in "airport mode." He even aced the restroom discovery at ground level.
One smooth sweep, one perfect stop. Ten out of ten. Happy dog and happy handler.
We spent a couple of hours hanging out with friends, just enjoying the chatter, the energy, and the comfortable feeling of knowing Ace was steady and confident in the environment—like we belonged there.
Afterward, we headed to our hotel in Ocoee, a small town that feels like it has its own quiet personality—gentle, simple, and just existing at its own pace. We intended to explore more...but the restaurant we visited earlier had other plans for us. The meal was delicious. So delicious, in fact, that my stomach filed an immediate protest. So, instead of strolling the charming streets of downtown Winter Garden, we opted for the "hotel horizontal relaxation experience." Zero regrets.
We did manage to drive through Winter Garden, though. It surprised me in the best way—no tall buildings, no overwhelming high-rise glare—just small-town charm stretched under open sky.
Calm. Lovely. Simple.
So while we didn't get to go exploring on foot, the trip still felt meaningful. Another city. Another night in a new place. Another memory added to our travel log.
Winter Garden and Ocoee may not have been the adventure we planned, but they were certainly the adventure we had. And honestly—that's half the fun.
Ace agreed. He slept like a log.
